Strange World is the newest animated movie put out by Disney. It released in theaters November 23, 2022 and was a box office flop. In theaters world wide it made 42.3M with a Budget of 135-180M. The movie is projected to loss 100M. It’s Disney’s lowest grossing film since 2011 with Winnie the Pooh and the lowest grossing thanksgiving release since Treasure Planet in 2002. Both Minions: Rise of Gru from Universal and DC Justice League Super-Pets from Warner Animation Group both grossed more in the box office than Strange World.
But this didn’t happen because the movie was just that bad. It’s because of poor management and terrible marketing. Before the movie even came out Disney stopped caring about this movie. Apparently the screenings didn’t go as well as the would have hoped so they decided to not spend money on marketing on a bad movie. Being a Disney fan myself and not even realizing that Strange World was one Disney and two releasing in November I find that a big failure on Disney’s part. In a poll that Saberspark conducted asking his followers on both YouTube and Twitter if they had seen a lot of advertising for Strange World 76% of people on YouTube said no and 84.6% on twitter. Saberspark is a content creator on YouTube that focus’ mainly on talking about different movies and tv shows and different aspects around them.
Its not like the movie is actually all that bad to warrant this reaction form Disney. On Rotten Tomatoes the critics score was 74% and audience was 66%. They’re not amazing scores but they’re also not absolutely terrible. Disney would have made more money if they just tired a little harder on marketing so at least people would know that it was coming out.
